Staff

The staff of Heberling Associates includes cultural resource management professionals, field and laboratory technicians, planners, and museum and administrative specialists. All of our projects are completed under the direct management and supervision of one or more of the senior staff.


 

 

 

 

 


Scott D. Heberling, M.A. - University of Massachusetts, Boston; M.A. - University of Delaware

Senior Historical Archaeologist and Historian

Scott Heberling serves as Principal Investigator for archaeological investigations of historic period sites, as well as for selected historic structures surveys and HABS/HAER recordations. He has graduate degrees in both History and Historical Archaeology and over twenty years of professional experience. Paul A. Raber, Ph.D. - The Pennsylvania State University

Director of Archaeological Services and Senior Archaeologist

Since joining Heberling Associates in 1990, Paul Raber has served as Principal Investigator and Director of Archaeological Studies, with overall responsibility for the completion of prehistoric and historic archaeological projects. His professional career has included several years spent as a staff archaeologist and project reviewer at the Pennsylvania Bureau for Historic Preservation, where he was responsible for the preparation of a statewide plan for archaeological resources, including research and policy formation. Paul M. Heberling, M.S. and M.A. - The Pennsylvania State University

Senior Archaeologist

Paul Heberling is the founder and senior associate of Heberling Associates. He now serves as manager of public interpretation, performs project planning and review on an ongoing basis, and serves as Principal Investigator and Field Director on selected projects. Paul was professor of anthropology at Juniata College until his retirement in 1989. He has supervised or participated in nearly 100 archaeological excavations or surveys in the eastern and western United States and Great Britain. For Paul's resume click here.


Judith A. Heberling, Ph.D. - University of Delaware

Director of Museum Services and Senior Historian

Judy Heberling has been associated with our firm since its formation and is responsible for museum projects and cultural resource planning. Judy has more than twenty-five years of professional experience in historical and material culture research, cultural resource investigations, museum assessment and collections management, exhibit research and planning, industrial history and recordations, National Register nominations, and planning documents for federal, state, and local agencies. Michael B. Husband, Ph.D. - University of New Mexico

Senior Planner and Historian

Michael Husband has over thirty years of professional experience in historical research, cultural resource investigations, teaching, interpretation, museum assessment, exhibit research, planning and design, nonprofit management, fund raising/fund development, strategic long-range planning, audience identification and development, economic and tourism development, and planning documents for federal, state, and local agencies and organizations. William M. Hunter, M.A. - Ohio University

Architectural Historian and Cultural Geographer

Bill Hunter came to Heberling Associates with a decade of professional experience as a geographer and historian in both the public and private sectors. Bill is a specialist in cultural landscape assessment, architectural history and structures, HABS/HAER recordation, National Register nominations, and federal/state cultural-resource compliance and funding. Gary F. Coppock, M.A. - The Pennsylvania State University

Senior Archaeologist

Gary Coppock has over twenty years of experience as an archaeologist and Principal Investigator on projects involving prehistoric and historic sites for cultural resource management firms and academic institutions in ten states. For Gary's resume click here.


David A. Crane, B.S. - West Virginia University

Archaeologist

Dave Crane joined Heberling Associates as a field technician and served as crew chief before becoming a Field Director at the beginning of the 2002 season. He has worked on numerous prehistoric and historic sites throughout the United States.


Terry V. Ayers, A.A. - Centre Business School

Accountant

Terry Ayers has more than twenty years of private accounting, finance, and data management experience. He holds a degree in business administration and accounting and is the in-house financial administrator on company projects.


Christopher L. Yohn, B.A. - The Pennsylvania State University

Graphic Artist

Chris Yohn earned a degree in Integrative Art and has been with Heberling Associates since 1998. He produces all of the maps and illustrations for our reports, presentations, and publications. Chris also coordinates our photographic processing, and maintains the photography library.
